The NET Standard that is concern with plagiarism is Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility. This standard is concern with that because teachers have to understand that most students may not want to do a report, so they try to either buy one of the internets, or they will just plagiarize and think that the teacher wouldn’t catch it. It’s the teacher job to teach the students that plagiarizing is bad and that they can get in a lot of trouble copying someone else’s work without giving the author credit.
Turnitin is a good tool in detecting plagiarism because once the student submits their paper through Turnitin, they can see how much they plagiarize, but also teachers can see where the student plagiarize, they can see where it came from. Turnitin highlights the text where the student plagiarizes at, and off to the side in that color it tells that teacher where it came from, when, and who. It’s a good tool for student’s to see that plagiarizing is not good and that it will get you in trouble. It will show student’s that the percent they give you when they finish reviewing the paper a text they said was actually on somebody else’s paper, and that writing in their own words is the best way to avoid plagiarism.
